About the Markham Teen Arts Council The Markham Teen Arts Council was founded in February of 2008, and is a committee of the Markham Arts Council.
The Markham Teen Arts Council is comprised of dedicated youth from across town, united in the common goal to raise awareness of the unknown youth talent in Markham. With an ever-growing membership, teens across the Town of Markham join the Markham Teen Arts Council (MTAC) to offer insight into what the average teen artist wants, representing the interests of their respective schools. The current Executive for the MTAC is comprised of many teens across the York Region. The Executive meet every other week, usually at the McKay House on Main Street, Unionville. However, due to the availability of the members of executive, the meeting dates are flexible and will vary. The entire council is made up of representatives from Markville Secondary School, St. Augustine's Catholic School, Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School, Milliken Mills High School, St. Roberts Catholic High School, Middlefield C.I., Bur Oak Secondary School, Father Michael McGiveny Catholic High School, Thornhill Secondary School, Thornlea Secondary School, Unionville High School and Markham District High School. In the recruitment of members, we try to put out our names as best as possible through contacting department heads at various schools, attending information fairs, and general word of mouth. Anyone who is interested will have to send in a brief background summary of what they've done in the community, their school, and/or their experiences in the arts, unless there is no member currently serving on council as a representative from the applicant's school. MTAC members can often be seen volunteering at the Markham Arts Council booth during such festivals and events like the Unionville Festival, Taste of Asia, Milliken Children's Festival, Thornhill Village Festival and Applefest to name a few. The goal is to spread the awareness of MTAC and the Markham Arts Council to the community. Come by a say "hello", or look at the Events menu above – maybe there's an event or showcase you would like to participate in.
