24-Hour Film Challenge The 24-Hour Film Challenge is an event by the Markham Teen Arts Council in partnership with the Mayor's Youth Task Force in trying to promote the student filmmakers around the town by allowing them to submit their work and display their talent. The event will take place from Friday, January 30th to Sunday, February 1st, and will proceed as follows: Kickoff Night - Friday, January 30th - Location: Varley Art Gallery, 216 Main Street, Unionville - Time: 8 PM - There will be a short opening reception, followed by a simple welcome and a briefing of the rules. - All members of all participating teams must attend, as a full head count will be done to finalize participating group members. - All participants will receive their surprise elements. - 24 hours will begin to count starting at 9 PM The Rules: The surprise elements are: THEME: Accidents LINE: “Nothing is impossible” PROP: Black Marker SFX: Whistle If you decide to render your video in High Definition, make sure your max resolution goes no higher than 1280 x 720. Submission Night - Saturday, January 31st - Location: McKay Art Centre, 197 Main Street, Unionville - Time: 7 PM - 9 PM - The McKay Art Centre (a white house across from Jake's on Main St. Unionville) will be open from 7 PM - 9 PM to accept film entries. A MTAC representative will be at the door just as you enter. - You may submit your entry on various media such as a USB drive, or a DVD. For more information on submission media, click here. Screening Night - Sunday, February 1st - Location: Canada Room at the Civic Centre, 101 Town Centre Blvd. (see map below) - Time: 7 PM - 9 PM - An opening reception will be held in the lobby accompanied by performing musicians from various schools. - A screening of all the submissions will be held inside the Canada Room, followed by a short intermission, during which all the submissions will be judged and winners chosen for each of the awards. - All participating members will gain free entrance upon providing proof that they're a part of the contest. Judges for this event include: Craig Henshaw Movie critic, Communications Technologies teacher Andy Morris Undergrad film student at Ryerson University Christopher Germain Undergrad film student at Ryerson University Winners: - 1st Place - 2nd Place - 3rd Place - People's Choice NOTE: This event was a great success and has now been closed for this year.
